You first need to figure out for yourself exactly what "more bass" means.  Are you just unhappy with the overall sound of the L5?  Do you just want LOUD bass?  Do you want better sound quality?  I will just take a shot in the dark and pretend that you just don't like the L5 (because I know I don't like 'em!  ha ha ha)  Sorry.  Anyway, In the past, I have done several different types of installs, each for a differnt budget, of course.  Here's what I have done, strating with least expensive to the most expensive:

1.  Keep the L5 and simply build a box to spec that will fit under the seat the best you can and upgrade the amp.  Anyone who has read my posts probably knows that I worked at a Memphis dealer, so I know that amp quite well.  Good amp, but 500 watts is max power at max distortion.  The amp is made in Korea. If you like Memphis, at least go with the MC 1000d.  That way you can at least get 500 watts rms clean.

2.  Buy the JL Audio stealthbox or MTX Thunderform that's pre-made for your truck.  Won't be the loudest thing on the block, but might sound better than the L5.  Those pre made boxes with the sub are very pricey.

3.  The slickest custom install we did that didn't alter the truck too much was to pull the carpet up in the rear and fiberglass in those storage compartments under the back seats.  We made a custom top plate that we painted to match the exterior of the truck and mounted it to the top of those storage deals.  The storage compartments along with the top plate made a small sealed box that would fit 2 10's (round 10's) that are, of course, designed for small sealed boxes.  Again, not overly loud, but clean and accurate.  We used the Memphis Belle 5 channel amp that was 1100 x 1 going to both subs and also had a built in 75 x 4 for the mids.  Very expensive install.

4.  After I left that shop, the same guy desided that he didn't like the 10's anymore and desided that he wanted 12's.  They did a blow-through from the bed into the cab and used 4 Memphis MOJO 12's each pair powered by a MOJO 2400 watt class D.  Big bucks, big bass, but essentially destroys the truck.. You would have to leave all your stuff in it when you sold it, of course, because of the gaping hole that would be in the bed and cab.

Hope that gave you some ideas

Everyones opinion of "loud bass" is certainly different. Try to be a little more specific with what your really trying to get out of your subs. Anyway here is some companies you can go with(in no particular order): MTX, JL Audio, Orion, Infinity, Alumapro, Pioneer. Stick with some name-brands like these. Sorry, but I also don't like the L5s or anything from Kicker for that matter. You get something like one Orion H210.2 sub and then you will see what LOUD BASS is!

The only problem with the Orion H2 is that even the 10's are like $600.00 and are too deep to fit under his seat.  They would work if he cut through the floor of the truck or did a blow through on the bed and cab.  You would be upgrading the amp for sure then!

do you guys know what "louder" means? i did not say better quality? i didn't say i didn't like the sound of the L5.  willdkartunes read my post i asked what box, i posted the truck model,  i said i wanted something under the seats. i didnt ask for a list of all the brands. you said the "You get something like one Orion H210.2 sub and then you will see what LOUD BASS is!" Try to be a little more specific as to why the orion H210.2 is loud bass because every one opinion of loud bass is different.

Maybe if you have heard the Orion then you would know what I'm talking about... Better quality does mean louder because the speaker ain't gonna be too loud when its fried! Just because your wanting to put this subwoofer under the seat doesn't mean you can't go with high quality subs. It just means you have to work your way around problems, which usually means modifications to the vehicle. If this is not the route you want to take and you would like to keep things simple then any one of the list of speakers that I provided makes subwoofers that will have a small enough magnet to fit a tiny enclosure under your seat! If you would rather stick with some sucky L5 Kicker then thats your choice... I was only trying to help.

For  r_wern

You can find some Orion 10 inch H2s for a lot cheaper than 600 bucks. www.onlinecarstereo.com has them for way cheaper and so does www.cardomain.com but I'm not really sure about shipping quality or anything like that. I'm gonna find out very soon on that subject. I've heard that they are both decent places to order from though. If your looking for bigger sizes than a ten they got them too for very cheap. (still under $400) Definitely need some power to those bad boys! Amp upgrade indeed

not4666,

Yes, we know what "louder" bass means.  There are different types of "loud".  There is no sound quality , just loud, there is good sound quality loud.  It's about what quality of loud you want.  In my , (and it seams like other people's) oppinions, that L5 of yours isn't capable of giving you what you want.  You asked the question, we took the time out of our lives to give you the best answer that we could, and you act like we are a bunch of idiots for suggesting the things that we suggested.  Keep in mind that quite a few people in 12volt have tons of experience and knowledge, probably more than you and me put together.  Not speaking for anyone other than myself, please don't ask questions to ME anymore unless you want my advice.  If you don't want to hear it, then don't ask.  Thank you

Have you taken a look at Rockford's new line of shallow mount subs?  They're due out soon if they're not already.  I work at Ultimate Electronics in Arizona and we carry a lot of Rockford equipment.  They're going to fill one of our demo rooms later this month with their 2006 lineup and I bet these subs will be in there.  When they give us the equipment I'll try and let people know what I think.  Here's a link to the sub

geez "r_wern" dont get so worked up. i actually loved your response to my post . by louder i meant i wanted something that would fill up my cab more or sound greater(my mids and tweets drown out my L5). how did the slick custom install sound compared to the MTX thunder form? what woofers did he use? why would anyone want something that was louder but sounded like crap. the thunderform and a custom fiberglass box would have about the same airspace would one sound better?             and "wildkartunes" i want to place something under my rear seats without having to cut out my floor. i was looking to get some suggestions from people who had experience with a 2005 dodge ram quad cab.  i imagine the orion sub is very nice, it should be for$400 to $600. but it just doesnt fit this application.    i want something pretty simple that will sound good.
