I'm new here so please excuse me if  I make a mistake.  I have a 2002 Silverado Standard cab and would like to install a 6-disk cd changer Head unit from a 2005 Sierra Extended cab.  It is the bose setup.  I have the amp that comes with it.  I have modified the dash to except the Head unit.  I don't have steering wheel controls.  For 1-I need to have the radio unlocked (If this can be done without going to the dealer please let me know) 2-can I do this without having the Class 2 Data?  Any help would be appreciated.

1. No, you have to have a GM scan tool to reprogram the new vehicles VIN into the radio to unlock it.
2. There is no way around this as it is a Class II radio that requires a Class II databus wire.

You mean that this radio, even if the radio is unlocked, will not work in a 2002 Silverado?

I apologize I don,t think I was clear on the 2nd question.  I didn't mean can I unlock the radio without the class 2 data bus.  I really wanted to know if I can operate the radio in a 2002 Silverado even though the truck doesn't use the class 2 bus.  Sorry about that.

Thanks, Silveradosg1

If the vehicle doesn't have Class II ( in your case the '02 doesn't ), then there is no way that the vehicle can communicate with the radio to let it know to turn on when the ignition is on because the Class II takes care of the radio's ignition turn on. The 2003 trucks have the Class II so to answer your question, no you can not use this radio on the truck you have unless it's a 2003 or newer truck.
