Deck stays on but music cuts out.

Your problem may be as easy as a pinched RCA cord or as crummy as a bad amp. Checking your RCA's is easy--just get a set you know is good and take it straight from the deck to the amp. If that ain't it, check your speakers. The best way it to meter them with a VMM and check the ohm loads on each channel, another way is with a noise generator. Good ol' boys have been known to use a 9v battery and make the speakers pop to make sure they're hooked up. If your speakers are in working order, then there's only one other place to check: the amp. I'm not familiar with PG, but I know I've had customers bring their amps with similar symptoms and what happened is they hit the switches on the amp and screwed up the settings. I got a pioneer premier deh something or other, i used to know the model by heart, but it was about a year ago and i have since then let it slip my mind, I do recall having the exact same problem, It stayed on a bit longer at lower volume, but as soon as it was turned up it would die on me until the power was reset, what you have done is hooked the wrong power wires up, there are 3 power wires to a stock car stereo, 12v always on (for the clock memory), 12v switched (to power the unit when the car is on), and there is a third for the factory stereo system which allowed the stock deck's display light to turn on and off and dim with the headlights. I had the exact same problem and couldn't figure out what the hell it was for the longest time, then I noticed something weird happened when I played with the lights. Again I don't remember specific details because it was a year ago, but I am pretty sure that you will be able to overcome your problem by tracing the wires out and connecting the right power wires to the right places. I think the colors were yellow red and pink? not too sure, if you have access to a multimeter it will make your job much easier, the always on power should show 12v when the car is off, the switched power should show 12v or more when the key is turned, and the wire which I would bet you have hooked up to the switched power wire of your deck, will vary in voltage when you play with the headlights.
