The features of both are pretty damn close to each other, as are the prices. The pioneer has a marginally larger screen: 7.0" vs 6.5" I haven't had much of a chance to sample eclipse's sound quality, but from everything I've gleaned from people I know and things I've read, eclipse is one of the best for that area.

I love pioneer but I would go with elcipse here. I find that the eclipse interface is easier to use and the sound quality is better with the elipse gear. Niether one would be a bad chaoice, but I think the eclipse is better. Also take kgerry's advice and check out the new Nakamichi piece. It is sure to be a nice one comming from that company.

I sell both and if I had to choose, the Eclipse will school the Pioneer. Far superior tonal response and a easy to use touch screen with a darn great picture.

No images / animation on the AVN-5495... They have a somewhat non-static background that is selectable, in two varieties. Compared to the existing top of the line pioneer units, (I have not seen the AVIC-Z1 in person, or I would have one instead of the 5495 that I have now), the eclipse screens are somewhat blurry and not as crisp. Pioneer has Eclipse beat hands down in the image quality department.   Does anyone know when the AVIC-Z1 will be arriving in warehouses?

I'd say go with Eclipse.  The sound quality is definitely better from Eclipse products.
That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.
