RCA cable upgrades?

They may help in reducing induced noise, but won't effect the sound any.  If you want to know which cable does it best, then here is an interesting read comparing coaxial cable to Cat-5 cable: http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/TechPapers/CarCables.pdf  The Belden cable used in the tech paper is pretty inexpensive, but would require you to build your own.  Plus it isn't as "pretty" as the high priced commercially available stuff.

One thing that is not truely clear in the Adire Tech Paper mentioned above. The Belden 8412 is not a true "coax"! It is a rubber jacketed 2 cond + shield or "shielded pair". The conductors are 20 AWG seperated by a twine filler. This is the oldest part number microphone cable still used. Later copied by Carol Cable (1302). No the 8412 isn't pretty. I use Canare install stuff either the starquad or the standard stuff which is easy to strip, terminate and has much small diameter, looks clean. RCA's standard Switchcraft either chrome or Black shell with gold, very inexpensive. An older post brought up members using RG-59 or RG-6 which are true Coax. A center conductor(s), a dielectric (teflon, foamed poly)and an overall shield or multiple shields. So what is the difference? True coax passes extreme high frequencies. The solid center reduced flexibilty making tight turns difficult. On some coax, the center conductor is copper clad steel. The higher freq's (gig range) pass on the outside of the conductor not the middle. Still ok to use for signal, just more challenging to install.
