I am installing an AVIC-N2 for a buddy of mine, along with it is the 5.1 system (models DEQ-P8000, and AXM-P8000), also installed a back-up camera and the voice guidance speaker (because the factory VG through interior speakers is disabled with 5.1)

I went through and set up the N2 for 5.1, I also set the digital input on the DEQ to use the optical cable coming from the AVIC.  I also turned on the back-up camera on the AVIC.  Ok, now heres the problems.

- 1: When I put a DVD into the unit it asks me if I want to play the DVD, I press yes, it pops up the "front seat viewing is prohibited blah blah blah" I press the ebrake, release it then press it again, warning goes away.  So the screen shows the movie is playing at the top, but all I see is a black screen.  No image!?!? Just a black screen.  I also get no signal through either the RCA's or the optical cable to the DEQ so I get no sound?!?!  It shows the elapsed time of the movie and everything and says Dolby 5.1ch, but no image, no sound?

- 2: Another problem I am having is everytime I try to move the volume knob "Mute" appears on the screen, I press anywhere on the screen and it goes away, move the knob again and it pops right back up.

- 3: Also, with the voice gudance speaker hooked up, when I say a command it is supposed to repeat it, It confirms my command on the screen when I say it, but no sound from the VG speaker.  I've checked the volume on it and it is all the way up.

- 4: Last problem.  When I put it in reverse, the back-up camera screen pops up and says "Images may be reversed" but... NO IMAGE!?!?  I know the cam is working because when the video cord is unplugged from the AVIC brain and plugged into a simple TV I get an image.

All of the other functions such as navigation screens and everything seems to be functioning properly.

ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS???  Or do I just have a junk AVIC-N2???

If your installation is correct, the unit sounds defective to me.  Take it back where you bought it for warranty repair.

I just hope I don't need to bring the wiring with it because we had this truck stripped down the sheet metal and everything was done for basically an oem look.  It is permanent by most means.  All the wiring was run through factory loom to the point where you cant tell what is new and what was factory what so ever, it was all soldiered and heat shrunk the whole 9 yards.  I'll be posting pictures when it is all done.  It's got fibreglassing, sound damping, plexi, lights, all kinda of stuff, it looks really good.  And it gave us a chance to rip apart a brand new SRT-10 Ram! Problems with AVIC-N2, Weird -- posted image.
