hey guys i want to motorize my license plate to flip up...I already have a hinged license plate bracket(hinge at top)..can I use a motorized car antenna?or do i need a linear actuator?i see they are pretty long to begin with when retracted..smallest i have seen is 6" for $110..i was thinking maybe a car radio antenna mite do the trick since the plate and the hinged frame isnt that heavy?any thoughts? thanks in advance

Regardless of what your intentions may be (just for show, running from the law, etc.) this subject is best left untouched.  Therein lies a huge liability.  Sure it can be done, but if I were still installing professionally, and someone came to my shop asking this, I'd politely show them the door.

you should do what they do in that driver 2 movie where his liscence plate is a triangle and it can instantly change to one of 3 plates... of course you better have a mclaren or something if you plan on getting away with anything of this manner lol. serious? why you wanna do that?

now we don't know exactly why he wants to do this. I used to own a '64 olds cutlass where the gas filler neck was behind the rear license plate. That would be pretty trick to have a button to lower the plate when pulling up to the pump, similar to a gas door release in a newer car. Not everybody is attempting to evade the law. custom motorization -- posted image.

no guys.hahahahaha not for anything illegal..i bring my car to car shows and I want to do something radical..i wanted to mount a small lcd screen behind the plate...so I needed a way to raise up the plate...that way I can control the motor from within the car at car shows

Admin what is the forum's official stance on this? I've read alot of posts where guys ask how to bypass clutches for a R/S. Honestly it kinda erks me that so many people ask for help and then they get shot down on the basis of morals.

........Why?  I'd charge him double, and not ask any questions.  If it comes back to you, he told you he wanted it for show.

I have the flip up licence plate for the older cars with the gass filler behind it installed on my s10.  I have it mounted on the rollpan for easy access to my "Hidden Hitch".  If you want it to flip up automatically, just mount a linear actuator somewhere on it.  I don't know how well the LAs stand up to weather though.
