6x9 speaker choice?

Hi guys,

I am about about to buy a pioneer DEH-P7400MP with some 6x9's. I don't really know much about them so I was hoping for some advice from you knoledgable bunch out there. I have been looking at some Kenwood KFC6907 and some Sony XPLOD XSK6930, I have a 2x150W amp to run them if the head units 4x50W isn't up to the job.

I have read some bad stuff about XPLOD Amps but cant find much info on the speakers performance, on paper the SONY above seems supierior to the Kenwood for approx the same price, are they actually any good?

I bought a pair of Sony Xplod 6 by 9's from radio shack recently, the specs were good, the ratings were good. I had my sister pick them up for me on her way home from work . When she got here and I took them out of the box, I had to laugh at the quality, so they never even went into the car (took them back) the surrounds on them were made of some type of sticky, tacky, treated paper weave paper material)and was VERY flimsy

 I knew I could have gotten much more speaker for the price.

 I have a Kenwood Excelon H/U and initially I wanted to go with an all Kenwood system, yet after some research I found that kenwood stuff just doesn't seem to have any high rms power handling (as far as in comparison to some other brands) yet I hear they sound nice, so kenwoods would be a better choice and I don't think you will get a treated paper surround on a kenwood 6 by 9...that says alot :)

one last thing...I have around 120 watts per channel up front and a subwoofer with about 500watts.

rear fills are running off a 2 x 22 rms head unit power:)

so yeah it should be enough, and should be more than enough for some good sound with that amp you have if you just want to have 6 by 9's only back there

ok cool, so I think I will go for the kenwood 6x9's,

If i get a component set for the front (say the Kenwood KFC-P703 ) will i need an amp for them?

I think i will hook my current amp up to a Sub

The Kenwood P703 Components have a RMS rating of 8 -50 watts, and a peak rating of 170 watts, that is per channel.

 Your Head Unit has a peak of 50 watts, and an RMS of (guessing here) 16 to 22 watts.

 You don't need an amp, they will sound nice without one, yet for the P703 components to  "shine" they could use a 35 to 50 watt x 2  RMS amplifier.

 but no, they don't need one.

one more q. If i get some higher rated speakers like the pioneer TS-A6910 which are rated at 330W max/80W nominal, do i need a more powerfull source to make them sound as good as a lower rated set running on less power? (ie can u underpower 6x9's and make them sound pants?)

It's fine with me, ask all the questions you want, I will help if i can,I am no expert.

 You will be able to use those speakers , you will hear sound out of them, they may sound pretty good . I checked and the sensitivity rating on that set of Pioneers is 93 so that is good  as far as using lower power .

 yet they are not going to sound like you probably want until you give them some nice amplifier power. that is my opinion, you may be fine with them.                                                                                                                                   Yes you can underpower a speaker and it sound like crap, I believe a speaker with lower sensitivity ratings require more power, before they start to sound good.
