I have a Garmin StreetPilot III GPS system  installed in my car that has a sub-mini audio output jack on the unit.  The GPS unit will speak turn by turn directions from an external speaker.

I'm looking for a module or adaptor that I can plug into the audio output jack on the GPS unit that will hook up between the audio output of my car audio system and the speakers that will mute the audio from my car stereo and send the audio from the GPS to the car speakers when the GPS speaks directions.

Does anyone know of such an adaptor, who makes it and/or where I could find one?

Thanks in advance!

If Garmin doesn't make one, chances are pretty good you won't find one. I hate to sound defeatist, but there you are. This will be especially true if you are not using a head unit with auxiliary inputs, (most likely an OEM deck won't have any, either - you didn't say if your deck was original or aftermarket) as your GPS won't have enough power to drive an actual speaker. It'd have to have an amplifier in it, relays, all that good stuff, and it'd probably drive you insane, switching in and out...
I'm afraid you won't find anything, and I hope somebody can prove me wrong...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

My HU is a Sony flip out 7" LCD and it has 2 aux inputs.

The Garmin will drive a speaker alone because the one it comes with is just a speaker with the 12 V lighter plug all in one.
