So here's the car: 2006 Civic Ex

I'm starting my whole I.C.E with a replacement stereo, aftermarket Sony headunit. Everything (according to the wire guides on this site and in the installation manual) is correct. I have the HU correctly grounded to the chasis. THe probelm is slight buzzing noise when in ACC and car is on. When I turn on the headlights, the noise is amplified. When I start to drive in reverse, the noise becomes extremely annoying. I have tried numerous things, such as running the pos/neg to the battery, checking for loose cables, etc. I'm still running off the factory installed amp, yet the original car stereo (stock), seems to operate just fine. Did anyone else run into this issue, or am I the only pet monkey who can't get it to work properly? I have checked the ground and no matter where I ground it, the buzzing persists with the daytime running lights and headlights.

have you tried DMM-ing the ground? sounds like noise from a harness somewhere, which is a pretty obvious statement but i would try checking the resistance of you grounding points.

there is a potential of the car having a higher "impedance" of ground... if that makes any sense.

basically i'd suggest getting out your DMM

I have not tried a multi-meter yet. Would that bad ground cause this problem between the headlights and headunit normally? Someone on 8th civic posted install directions and hasn't yet responded to this issue that I posted there also. Thanks again for your help. If It reads at 1 ohms or less, anything else you would suggest?

You have alternator noise. It is very uncommon in Hondas. As you put more load on the charging system ( ie. the headlights) the noise becomes greater. The ground is the first place to look, but since I have never encountered this problem in late model Civics I would try another head unit. My guess is yours is defective.

There is no such thing as free installation!
