you could have a bad speaker or speaker wire. and what the radio is doing is preventing the system from being damaged. while unit is on playing just listen to speakers to see if one sounds different. if the unit is aftermarket you can test wirs. by removing hu, then removing the terminal from speaker to test if any of the wires are shoting out to ground.,

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

How long does your cd player have to be playing before this happens?

there is no set amount of time it takes to do this it. i just got done driving back home and while i did i screwed around with my sound system. the more bass there is in a song such as oh lets say 50 cent - candy shop the speakers turn off at the first bass line but if i put in a kmk cd it takes about halfway through a song and if i put in a song with little to no bass it doesnt do it. also if i unplug one of the subs it doesnt happen.
