2 Amps to one DVC sub

Is it possible to wire 2 amplifiers to a DVC sub?  One amp per voice coil?  Or even to "stack" the amps to have one input to the amps?

Sure you can do this.  Just make sure a few things are true: 1) the amps should be exactly the same 2) the inputs to the amps should be exactly the same 3) the speaker wires from the amps to each VC should be exactly the same 4) the output from each amp must be exactly the same (same level, phase, etc.) and 5) the power output from each amp must not exceed the capability of the voice coil it drives (1/2 the listed RMS value of the speaker, generally.)  If the amps are not producing the exact same signal at the exact same level and delivering it to each coil at the exact same time, you will get cancellations and speaker output will suffer. Yea it would be the exact same amps...JL Audio 250/1's and hoping to get a 12W6.  Would this be a good setup?  I was initially trying to sell these and get the 500/1.  But if i can use 2 of the 250/1's then i might as well until i can upgrade. 

IMO unless you already own the two amps, you'd be much better off with one larger amp, or with a subwoofer optimised for the one amp you do have.  The difference between 250 watts and 500 watts is not very great (between 3 and 6db depending on what else changes.) Support the12volt.com

i currently have both of the 250/1's.  I'm looking to get a 12W6 and a 500/1.  But im open to suggestions on amp/sub combos

If you already have the amps, then sure, go for it.  Just be very careful and meticulous in your setup.  If it was me I'd go simple and buy the woofer I wanted, build a killer enclosure for it and use just one of the amps, then sell the other one on FleaBay and save my pennies for the upgraded amp.  It'd make life much simpler.  Support the12volt.com

Yea i was thinking of doing that, but i just dont want to damage the woofer by underpowering it.  So it looks like i will do that as long as it wont hurt the woofer.  I plan on making a fiberglass enclosure in the wheel well to keep things sorta stealth.

As long as you set your gain properly it is impossible to damage a speaker by "underpowering" it.Support the12volt.com
