i just recently installed a new system in my 04 Silverado, system consists of a alpine in dash dvd deck, 2 boston 6 1/2's and 2 4by6's which is ran by a rockford punch 4004 amp. also have 2 10" Boston G1 subs which is ran by a phoenix gold octane -R 5.0:1. Ever since i added my subs and the phoenix gold amp, my truck seems to make a clicking noise before it cranks, it does it once in a while, i have a stock battery ( AC Delco) and also a stock alternator. I am thinking its my battery and maybe i need to upgrade to a better battery, maybe a yellow top optima? can someone give me some feed back on this, its driving me crazy

I had/still have this problem, and trust me dont go waste your money on a new battery, cause that is exactly what I thought and no that is not the problem.  I thought maybe it is because my ignition coil went out and I replaced it with a push button start and it was something with that, and no.  So now I am guessing it is my starter going bad, I have another topic in here somewhere and they sent me about a 10 page article on how to tell if the starter is going bad.  Maybe some1 else knows so we can both be helped! lol

Need more information about that clicking noise. Does it click and click and then start ? Does the clicking noise sound like your battery is almost dead while your trying to turn over hte starter.... you know that noise .

mustangoo, did you upgrade the battery or just replace it. I had a similar problem to this last winter. I currently have 2 optima redtops. One of them was bad, which i did not know, and it was draining the other battery. When I tried to start the car the starter only clicked. I had to buy a portable jumper pack as a temporary solution until I could replace the bad battery. My point is that just replacing your battery with the same battery but newer might not be the sloution. You may want to upgrade to a yellow top or add a second battery if your stock alternator can handle it.

Forgot to mention that you might also want to go down to your local autozone or other auto place that does free battery checks and have them do a load test on your system. its free and they can tell you if anything is wrong. You could also just try charging your battery fully and see how long it lasts until your engine clicks again

engine clicks 2x then starts. and sometimes the batteries sound like they are almost dead. It just seems so ironic that it started doing that as soon as installed a second amp.

no, I actually upgraded the battery.  I had a really small battery they made fun of me because it looked like an ATV or Motorcycle battery it was funny, because it wasn't.  The battery I replaced it with has something like 900 CCA, don't quote me becuase I cannot remember off the top of my head but it is something like that wheater it be CCA or CA. the old one had something like 440.

Do a load test for the battery and see what you get. If the battery is sitting below 10.5 - 11.5 volts you should look at getting a replacement soon but if it's 12.0 or more, then you have another issue. Also see if there's a current draw on the electrical system as well with the amplifier's connected and with them not connected.
