Hey guys, first time posting here but I'm looking for some advice. I just got a new 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, the ride is great but the stereo is not. I've used Alpine and Kicker brands before and I've had very good experiences with them so I'd like your advice on this combination. The door speakers are 6x9's so I'm thinking about replacing them with Alpine Type R 2-way speakers with a Kicker ZX200.2 2 channel amp powering them. The front and rear speakers are 2.6's but I'm planning on using Alpine 3 1/2's and have the stock 6 disc changer power them. My question is will this meet my goal of better sound over the stock factory stereo? I mainly listen to rock & classic rock and I really don't want to put a sub in.
Also the Alpine 6x9's are rated at 55 RMS but the Kicker amp pushes a little over that, more like 70 RMS the specs say. Can the Alpines take that little increase or would they blow? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

That will sound much better than your factory stereo and the Alpine 6x9's will be fine with 70 watts rms.
Are you putting in a new deck also? Does your FJ have a factory amp installed?
I dig the new FJ's, nice to see something different.

As long as you have your gains set correctly won't have a problem with blowing those alpines.

I don't plan on putting in a new deck cause I think the main problem is the speakers in the system. From what I've seen online the stock 6x9's are paper cone and the magnets on them are no bigger then the size of a quarter, and no I'm not kidding on that. lol They 2.6's in the dash and rear pillars have bigger magnets on them then the 6x9's in the doors if you can believe that. Take that all into account and the fact that it's a mix of 4 & 8ohm speakers mixed in together from the factory and you can see why I want to do a small upgrade. Thanks for the advice so far, keep it coming. Great forum by the way.
