I would say anywhere from 32-35hz. I personally have my ported box to 41hz, but it is more for SQ not SPL.

41 Hz is a bit high for SQ, it's more toward SPL imo.

How would a higher frequency be on the side of SPL?

most true SPL boxes are tuned to match the cabin gain to meet the resonant frequency of a vehicle.
I.E    Our civic really likes 56-58hz for SPL use. But we typically have a cabin gain of 8-10hz based on power, box position, and tempature and humidity
so we tune our boxes to approx 45hz to achieve maximum SPL
This is the definition of SPL use for competition use.

back to the topic I would tune the box to 32-36hz with a 2-2.5 inch wide port approx 14-15 inches long by (x) deep to achieve tuning based on box size

See, I have always tuned low, my last 3 boxes were under 30 hz, but for customers I make all their boxes tuned to about 31-33 hz
