i have a ford escort 1996 n registration - some thieving so and so stole my steroe so i have bought a new one, but being a useless female, i haven't a clue where to start on fitting it...any help re wiring would be a big help

Is the factory radio plug still there?  If so, visit your local stereo shop and buy the harness adapter for that car.  Wire color to color on your new stereo to the harness you bought and it'll plug right in.

If the harness is missing (cut off), read the sticky "how to figure out stereo wiring".  If that does not make sense to you, have your local stereo shop do it- this will save you a lot of trouble.
