Setting a parametric eq

Hey guys I need your help.  I have a Pioneer DEH-P4800MP HU.  It has a 3-band parametric eq.  I'm having trouble using/setting this eq.  Does anybody know of some good settings to use for this, or know of a link to explain how to use and set a parametric eq?  I've searched on the net and had little luck.  I hope someone can point me in the right direction.  Thanks.

I'd recommend using an RTA to see the problem areas in your system.  Most of the local stereo shops should have one available for you to use, for a price.  It will let you know where to boost at and what Q value to use.  If you can make the adjustments while the RTA is on, that would be ideal.

I kinda gotta agree with Dan on this one... Three bands might give you enough control, but NOT enough to pay a shop for the use of an RTA... 7 bands might be getting CLOSE to needing an RTA to use it effectively. Not only that, but there is no deck with internal PEQ that is true PEQ. Quasi parametric, sure, but true parametric needs an external and expensive box... Even the high-end Eclipse decks only have 7 bands (some have 10) of quasi-parametric EQ capability. Go with your ear, set it how it sounds good to you.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I don't want to sound dumb, but what's a RTA?

Its a real time analyser. It basically shows you what frequencies in your car are too abundant and which are lacking by using a microphone. They are very expensive to buy. A 3 band isnt going to do a whole lot for you so a RTA would be a waste. "People with mullets live 40% longer"   - Ricky Bobby

Well as a simple guideline, your lowest numbered band is going to be for your low bass (probably anywhere from 63hz - 125hz). Yoru send band is probably going to be for your midbass (125hz - 315hz) and your 3rd band will be for your higher treble. If you think you need more of any one of those 3, move the eq up a bit for that band. If you think you need less, lower it.
