I am trying to install a DEH 9600 MP pioneer cd player in a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora and instead of having  a normal wiring harness it had a ribbon? What do i do?

You probably have a factory amp wired in there. I would need more info but it sounds like you are going to have to bypass that amp in order to swap out that deck. Most GM vehicles have orange as constant and black as ground behind the deck. You are also probably going to have to run you own switched power from the ignition harness. If you dont have a lot of experience with 12 volt I would suggest going to your local shop and have them do it for you.

Its not a problem head up to the local stereo shop and pick up a harness. Scosche model number GM07B. Not sure buy you might need to have one special ordered. But there is no need to bypass any amp.

You have what GM terms a "Dock and Lock" dash. In addition to the harness adaptor, you will need an antenna lead adaptor as well. Only the Aurora's with the BOSE system used an amp.

I am assuming the Scoche GM07B is a wiring harness.  How will this work with the ribbon?

I have called a local shop and they first told me to sell the car b/c its hard to do any install in it. But then they said that i woul dneed to rewire everything, from the 12+ to the ignition and a constant 12+ and the grunds and all the speaker wiring.  I am willing to do that, but i have alrady bought a harness from metra that is compatible with my car but won't work becuase i have a ribbon behind my in dash unit and not normal wires.

The harness will plug into the plug in the back of the radio cavity. All of your wires are there such as power constant and ground with all the speaker wires. That car is a little tough to work on but I just did a full system in it now problem earlier this week.

okay the metra harness i have does not plug in correctly.  Why would metra sell something and say it fits a 2001 aurora when it doesnt?  Do you have a link to where i can find the Scoche harness? i am having trouble locating it
