My personal opionion, the trunk "kits" are a waste of time... Dynamat original is garbage - the adhesive fails too easily. I know this from experience, I just spent the last two weekends peeling all my old dynamat original out of every place in my car I installed it.
Go to your local brick-n-mortar, and buy a BULK PACK of Dynamat Extreme. It'll cost about 200 to 250 dollars, but with 9 sheets, (4 times as much as that trunk kit'll get you...) there'll be enough to do a goodly portion of your car, including doors, and help all that much more.
Actually, PM me, and I'll make you a deal on an unopened box I have extra in my garage... (you'll pay shipping, of course.)
But to answer your original question, YES, proper Dynamat (i.e. not the original) DOES work, and works very well!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I agree with haemphyst here. I used some of the "offbrand" products. Nothing sticks long term like Dynamat Extreme.

Actually, second skin's Damplifier sticks better than Dynamat extreme, and if I'm not mistaken it's cheaper too.  Or if you want one that's a lot cheaper with about equal adhesion to dynamat extreme look at www.raamaudio.com

Their stuff is hella cheaper and works just as good as extreme.  Just make sure whatever you buy isn't just rubberized asphalt and is actually butyl based.

Brown Bread is what I use. Our climate has copious amounts of moisture and heat + sometimes a little cold as well. Nothing has proven to stand up like the Brown Bread sound deadener. I got a good laugh the other day when FS's installer came over with a crapload of Dynamat peeling off of his trunk lid. I "I told ya so" never felt so good.

Rob, I don't know if you saw this post... I still can't find it here, but there is a guy doing absolutely independent tests in his back yard... Lined 'em all up, and took all kinds of shots at 'em.

I was VERY plesantly surprised.... Brown Bread and B-Quiet were some of the first to fail at high temperatures... B-Quiet Ultimate fared MUCH better, although still not as well as the Dynamat X...
While some of the most expensive of all the damping products he tested, the Dyanamt Extreme also perfomed FAR better than all of the products in the heat tests, save one of them... The Damplifier stuff beat it in both heat and cold...

Well, in my hands on experience over the last number of years (like 6) that I have carried this product, I have not had one wardrobe malfunction. Damping Accessories -- posted image.

Interesting. I've been "out of the game" for a couple years now, and had not heard of Second Skin's Damplifier.
I tried Raamaudio. I recommended Raamaudio for the longest time. Awesome value.
However, I have a black car and left it outside this last summer when my stall of the garage was being used for a speaker building project. I opened my trunk on one very hot day; everything had either peeled off or was curling over. The Dynamat Xtreme I had in a few places was still stuck, even in the corners.
