I've been reading several post's about battery Isolators and boy are there veried opinions. I recently purchased a new Cole Hersee No# 48120 battery isolator guard, which I will be installing between 2 new optima batteries. It came with no instructions, my question is does this unit have to be mounted to a metal surface for grounding purpose's or can I mount it to a plastic surface? There is limited space under the hood of my 05 Ford F-150 near the battery and away from a major heat source. There are three connections on the top of the unit labeled battery 1, alternator, and battery 2. Thanks for this website, any advice will be appreciated. John....

No. Any surface away from excessive heat will be acceptable.
