Hey, I have a couple questions for anyone that can help me. I have the dual 12 stage 2 loaded enclosure from Rockford Fosgate model Pl2-212. I noticed that one subs wasnt working so I took it apart and checked all the wiring and connections and everything seems fine. The other side works great. I have had them running off the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3002 in bridged mode which is rated at 300x1 RMS. The speakers are rated at 400 watts RMS at 8 ohms, they are single voice coils and I had them wired in parallel. I have never had a problem with any popping or strange noises, improper grounding, road noise, loose wires, blown fuses etc. I have never played with the settings on the amplifier, they are set the same way they have been for about a year now and I do not try to wake the dead by blasting hip hop at full volume ( in fact I do not play hip hop at all, only metal) but regardless something is wrong. I thought maybe the voice coil fried but I dont understand how it could have, if anything I thought I was underpowered. I was able to view the voice coil from the slots around the cage of the sub and I dont see anything that looks bad, the wire still looks tightly wound, its still bright orange color and I do not notice anything smelling like it got burnt. When I push on the dustcap I do not feel any resistance or hear any rubbing noises. Is there a way for me to test other then trying the pop test with a battery? I tried that and nothing happened. Also if it is fried is it something I can repair myself?

If you tried to pop the speaker with a battery and nothing happened, its time to go shopping for a new speaker. It is unlikely you will be able to repair it yourself, possible to send it in and have it rebuilt/repaired.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured as much but thought I would ask just to be sure. Now can anyone tell me how or why so I can prevent this in the future?

Sometimes they just die. maybe it was weak from the go and it was undetecable. There could be a million reasons wht though, I am not a rockford fan so.........that would be my thoughts. I use to like their product, but quality seem to take a dive for a bit now.

Same thing happened to my friends P1 12....just died...no burnt coil or anything...not stiff or anything...just died...I don't like Rockford either...overpriced everything

Can't speak for the P series. I've got two T112D4s. No problems, they take a beating and pump out very well. Though I have to admit...the older punch series woofers tended to be disposables. Use them, blow them, replace them.

I just recently bought a 12" Poweracoustik Fubar, Does anyone have any feedback on it?

nouseforaname, You were right, the positive lead was no longer connected to the voice coil. I do not for the life of me understand the spot it came apart in though. The wire seperated under that glass-like glue. I wouldnt think that would be an area that would be stressed enough to rip in half. The good thing is the subwoofer is working again! I removed the voice coil former and soldered the voice coil back to to the lead. I had to cut the voice coil former down a bit but it still does its job. I lined everything up so that there was no contact with the pole and hot glued the spider and the surround back together. When I connected it the next morning everything seemed fine, I compared it with the other one from the set and couldnt hear any difference between the two. I beat the hell out of it with "lil jon" for about 1/2 an hour and it still held together!
