powered subs are not the way to go. i would recommend you demo some subs amps and front stage speakers. go to as many car audio shops as you can. listen to your own C.D's and see what you like the sound of.

Simon,
I can help you with the 6 by's. I have a pair of Eclipse 89940 6X9 Point-Source 2 ways. I did a slight modification to them, so I could bi-amp them, but it is reversible, and they still work perfectly.
How's £75, (about $140.00US for those of you keeping track) shipped and insured, sound? I still have the box, grilles, complete unopened accessory kit (wires, screws, manuals), and even the registration card (not that it'll do you any good...) I think they sold originally in the states for about $200 (about £107) for the pair.
Never overpowered, still functioning perfectly, with nothing more than a little dust on the cone... I can ship them right now, they're all boxed up. PM me if interested, and I'll give you my PayPal information.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
