After aftermarket headunit install it seems like I screwed up by hooking up illumination wire.

Climate control (above the radio), Cruise/Sun-roof switch do light up but very faint. Dimmer on the dash only dimms the tach now and will not dim anything else.
Any idea what I screwed up and what I need to replace/fix? I have unplugged the orange wires .. put back the stock HU and it didn't help. It looks like I am not any current going from dimmer the control units. maybe a diode/resistor was blown? Thanks in advance.

yes i have, none were blown.

a few people are helping me and apparently i might have a fried diode somewhere between the radio and the dimmer (probably somewhere on the gauge cluster). i will try to take the gauge cluster out and do a conductivity test on some diodes.. if i can trace the right wire.  i was told that the dimmer is a floating ground type of dimmer (minimal grounding = bright).
