I'm woundering if some one can help me on what sub and amp to choose? I have a Volvo v40 and in it I have some infinity kappa speakers and a rockford amp (100Wx4 @ 2Ohms RMS). My alternator is 120A. At the moment I have a 20mm2 (4awg) power cable from my battery to the Amp.
I have room for 2 10" subs on the sides of my trunk, one on the left and one on the ruight side, facing each other (want to be able to fold down my seats to load stuff). The Amp/Amps I can place where the spare wheel should be.
The music I'm mostly going to play is Trance/Techno and some Rap.
My budget would be about $400-$450.
So I need this info:
#Amp/s
#Sub/s
#Power cable
#Closed/Ported box
Any good tips would be appriciated :-)

Aiming subs directly at each other can make fore some weird sounding subs, man.

I don't know  what gear costs in Sweden, but putting together a good sub system (Amp, Sub(s), Enclosure(s), Cables), is gonna be tough to do for $450 bucks. Save up some more dinero - like $1200 - and get some really good gear.

As far as sealed or ported ... ported will give you a few more Db's, but the enclosure is a bit larger for a given speaker. The question is ... how much space do you have?

I'd find a way to KEEP your spare. Ditching it in order to install an amp is bad juju for a car that is driven regularly. A show car - that's a different story.

As far as specific gear suggestions ... I'm partial to JL's amps & subs. The W3 might suit your purposes, along w/ a 500/1. Whatever you decide on, the subs should installed together in one enclosure - more efficient & sounds better.

ditto the above...
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

And the old guy has a different opinion, of course. And I'm sure Steve would expect nothing less either. I do not need a spare. I could care less about a spare. If you put a bix monster sub box above the spare and it is mounted down properly, how then do you get to the spare? Leave the spare at home where it should be. WIth todays cars and roadside assistance and inflate a tire cans, a spare tire is a waste of space.

Now if the speakers were in highly close proximity and firing at each other, I would not recommend it. If they were midrange drivers I would not recommend it, but subs, I have fired them from the corners of cars for the last 15 years now with not one issue at all. Try to give the subs a bit of a slope on the front of them to help out with old Mr. Gravity as well. If someone is going to tell me that the pressure wave of a sub in the trunk of a car is going to cause something nasty to happen to the other sub because it is facing it, well, I fail to see the logic in that. A pressure wave is going to bounce all over in a trunk and even if the subs are side by side and facing the back of the car, this is generally about the same distance as two subs across from each other in a trunk. Go ahead with your idea or personally because of Mr. Gravity, put the sub(s) in the spare tire wheel well with a nice good grill over it. Subs work much better when they are not fighting Mr. Gravity but working with him. What I am getting at is that it is far easier to secure a sub into a box in the wheel well than it is to secure one into a box that is on the side of a car (in some but not all cases).

With your budget, I would either start with one good sub and buy and amp that can power two subs, or go with one good sub and the amp to power it. Two subs are not always better than one. Two good subs might kill your budget in the blink of an eye, depending on the deals that you get over in Sweden.

The box(es) is (are) going to need to be built to suit the sub and the vehicle. So personally I would also save up some more cashola and do it right the first time.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

LOL!!

If both of your profiles are correct, Steve & I have a few years on ya, Rob!! Just 'cuz this "new guy" is a newb to "the12volt" doesn't mean I'm a whippersnapper!! LOL!!

I agree w/ your ideas on Sub placement ... it all really depends on the proximity of the subs in question. Experimentation & Patience is the key.

As for the spare ... as with MANY things in life, it's better to have & not need than to need & not have!! LOL!! I'm keepin' mine!

This board is THE HEAT!
