Hi all,

I have a 2003 Silverado with a Bose factory stereo.  I want to replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket double din with LCD/TV/DVD/AM/FM stereo.  Can I use the GMRC-01 for this?  Any guidance on how to do this is appreciated.

Thanks,

Boattow

Yes the GMRC-01 is what you will need.
There is no such thing as free installation!

Thanks for the reply.  I was advised by the local stereo/alarm store to buy the GMRC-01 but maybe I didn't tell them I had a bose system.  When I went to install the aftermarket stereo, the instructions on the adapter stated not for bose or monsoon systems(that's what prompted me to post in the first place).  I did some searching  on the net and found a GMOS-04 which is suppose to support Bose and on star (which I don't have) and so I bought one today.  I noticed that the doors say Bose on them but the radio itself doesn't and it says delco on the fine print on the sticker on top of the HU.  I started making the connections on the interface to the after market stereo's wiring harness.  I'm wondering if my truck is considered to have a Bose system afterall.  There is a second, smaller connector on the factory radio for a wiring harness that my truck doesn't have that is right next to the 24pin connector.  Also the GMOS-04 has the same size connector with 2 wires (in addition to the 24pin connector) on it but of course I have no harness to plug into it.  Can anyone clear this up and verify that I"m heading in the right direction?  At this point I have the GMOS-04 almost completely wired up but it is getting dark now and I won't be able to continue until tomorrow so maybe someone can advise me before I put power on this tomorrow and keep me from doing any damage ;-)

Thanks,

Boattow

Well guess what I have a 2002 grand am gt which has a monsoon stock stereo system..... I went and bought the GMRC-01 and my dad actually saw the "not compatible with bose or monsoon systems", so we too kthe part back and I was told I was going to have to dish out 200 dollars for them too rewire my entire car to make my deck work..... So me and my dad phoned the company who makes the GMRC-01(sorry i cant remember the company) and they said that I would need the GMOS-04. So we start phoning around looking for the GMOS-04, but could not find it anywhere, eventually this one guy at a different car audio shop said that he always uses the GMRC-01 on the newer grandams and that it actually works... He also said to make sure your battery was disconnected because there could be a possible short and the airbags could blow. So we start by taking out my monsoon deck and then wired everything up just matching the colours, thats how simple it was and my deck works fine.

So what I am trying to get at here is that the GMRC-01 thats not supposed to work with monsoon or bose systems actually worked in my car and the airbag light which flashes 7 times when you start your car if its working properly is working fine.

But anyways its simple just match all the colours up and then make sure that your airbags are properly working, by counting the number of times the lioght flashes (call your car dealer for this info)

You can use the GMRC-01, it will just feed a much higher level of signal into your BOSE amp than it was desgined to handle.  It will work fine, even play louder, but you may find that you can't turn up the radio volume without encountering distortion.  I'd recommend getting the GMOS-04, the one designed to interace with the amplified systems. Then company that makes these adaptors is Metra.

If your airbags are not working properly (which has nothing to do with replacing the stereo) then the airbag warning light will remain illuminated after you start the vehicle.  As long as the light goes out, you're good

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.  I had already begun installing the GMOS-04 when I put the last reply in.  The aftermarket HU has RCA phone (line level) outs and the GMOS-04 has RCA phone line level inputs so the interface was easy to do and the levels matched.  Also the interface has a pot to adjust the level to reduce distortion if needed.  One thing I liked better also is that the chimes play through the stereo speakers as with the factory HU rather than a small speaker in the interface.  The chime audio level is also adjustable...I turned it way down.  I suspect that I could have used the GMRC-01 by soldering RCA phone jacks to the speaker wires as well but I figured that the GMOS04 had speaker level to line level conversion built in...which it doesn't.  Without that I really don't see the need for it as the only real difference in the 2 interfaces is the provision for RCA phono jacks.  If my aftermarket HU had only speaker level outputs, I still would have had to deal with that.  Soldering on jacks would have been a lot cheaper than buying the $100 interface.

Good luck,

Boattow
