A "backwards sub" actually works by sucking the air out of the vehicle, creating negative SPL instead of positive (you may have seen figures like -100db?)  A normal sub pressurizes the vehicle and pushes your eardrums in, while a backwards sub sucks your eardrums out.  If you have a perfectly matched positive and negative sub, your eardrums don't move and there is no sound even though you may be using 5000 watts of amplifier power!  It is an amazing effect that some high-end audiophile types call "audio stasis."  Although you cannot actually hear anything, the sense of being pressurized creates a feeling of unease.  It's a technique used quite often in movie theaters, especially with horror films.  It can make the IASCA judge give you twenty extra points "just because."  backward subs -- posted image.

Blowing up in a car accident doesnt worry me, as long as I'm putting out some major dB's when I die...

Damn, DYohn... you need more sunlight!
Funny, but still, there's a WHOLE world out there!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
