A friend of mine had a pioneer Z1 Nav system installed on his 2006 Charger. No other components were installed other than th HU. When he picked up his car, it would not shift out of 1st gear so he took it back. After a day or two, he was told this was caused by disconnecting the battery, removing the factory HU and installing a aftermarket HU. When the power was reconnected, the vehicle computer did not reconize the HU and caused a trouble code in the system. They fixed it by removing the Z1 and re-installing the factory HU, then re-installing the Z1 without d/c the battery.

My question is has anyone heard of this or had this problem? If so, are there any other vehicle's that this can happen to? I have never had this problem with a Chrysler, or any vehicle before or even heard of it until now. Gantid I have only been installing for a few years.

Thanks for the info!

Its very possible. GM has been integrating more and more into there h.u.'s for some  time now. Chrysler is usually a few years behind so I would think it is likely the cause.

so what can be done to prevent that problem just not disconnect the battery or is it like GM and you have to use a special wiring harness with the chime and something of that nature ???

I am not sure i have only done 1 install on a charger and I used a line out converter. If I hear anything I'll post it.

That's crazy. So what happens when the battery goes dead and nees to be changed? Is the OEM hu going to have to be re-installed again to complete the circut for the ECU and then swapped back to the Z1 w/o disconnecting the new battery?
