Hey guys. I recently bought One Kicker CVR12 sub, but it is has a 2-ohm dual voice coil.

The wiring part is confusing me since it's 2-ohm. The reason is, I can't wire just one sub in a 2-ohm setup, right? I would need to wire it as 4-ohm... but would wiring my sub @ 4-ohm work without causing any problems??

also i was planning to get the audiobahn a8000t amp and run it at 4-ohm, but im not sure if its possible or not.

any help would be appreciated! thanks.

You could run the sub on one voice coil @ 2 ohms. It would be better to run both in series for a 4 ohm load. If the amp you are using can push the power you need @ 4 ohms, this would be recommended. The amp would then generate less heat and have a better THD (though in a sub, I think it's less of an issue than with mids and highs).

As far as Audiobahn...you will find that this forum is not very friendly towards their amplifiers. I have not personally used them, but I trust the judgement of the senior members of this forum and would not run one. I believe the A8000T runs 400 Watts @ 4 ohm. This would be the correct rating for your sub.

Here's are the wiring configurations for your sub (1 ohm or 4 ohm).

Option 1 (parallel) = 1 ohm load

Voice coils wired in parallel

Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 1 ohm mono

Option 2 (series) = 4 ohm load

Voice coils wired in series

Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 4 ohm mono

yea true... the only reason i was considering the audiobahn amp was because it seemed perfectly compatible with the RMS range of the sub...

the other amp i was looking at was the kenwood KAC-9102D

it is:

-1700 MAX OUTPUT

-500W X 1 @ 4 OHMS

-850W X 1 @ 2 OHMS

anyone got anyother suggestions for amps under a medium budget??

For 500 Watts...I REALLY like the JL500/1. I like the parametric adjustments for the boost and just the overall versatility of the amp.
