I stumbled upon this site...interesting
http://www.teamtoxicbass.com/literature/writeups/the_golden_ratio/index.htm
I thought the shape didn't matter much when dealing with sealed enclosure...that the sub sees the internal volume at what it is...doesn't matter if it is a rectangle or square or circle or whatever...well thats what everyone here is saying
Opinions??

The golden ratio is very important in designing dynamic speaker systems designed to operate through the midrange.  For subwoofer frequencies it is not important at all.

Speaker Workshop has a built-in calculator that will figure sizes for different ratios.  I look at trying to design for the mids in a golden ratio first...and if it doesn't work out I just try to get it as close as possible.  For subs, just design for volume.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
