MTX T-Form Dodge Quad Cab

Hello, I've been reading your forum for the last few days and have gleaned some good information from it. Thank you. I am a long time audiophile, and have not built a car system since 1989. Does that make me a geezer? Anyway, I am a EE and started building car stereo systems in 1982. I had a CD player and bi-amplified speakers in a Dodge D-50 in 1983. At that time I paid about 500 hard earned minimum wage dollars for 220 watts of power.   The CD player, a Sony Discman portable, cost about $400. It was loud, for the time.... But it sounded great. My main goal has always been accurate sound reproduction. That goal becomes stronger as the years go by. I have received clearance from the govering authority, i.e. wife, to put a system in my 2003 Dodge Quad Cab. There aren't many spots for a sub except under the rear seats (unless I want to sacrifice the middle part of the front seat). It is irregularly shaped and it would be hard to utilize all of the volume available with a custom built cabinet. So I found the MTX Thunderform enclosure online, loaded with two 10" subs. The problem with this product is that there is no dealer with a demo model to test. The product appears to be well thought out, but I have no idea how it sounds. Given that I am very nitpicky on sound quality; can any of you tell me if you have heard these subs and how they sound? Thanks, Dallas

Hi Dallas, and welcome to the12volt...I bought one of these MTX systems for my mom's Expedition last christmas. It was one 10" in a sealed amplified enclosure. It sounded phenomenal compared to the OEM setup. It wont shake the ground beneath you, but if good SQ is what your looking for I would say theyre a great addition to a factory sound system. The one I bought her goes in the factory location in the back wall, so theres a lot of free air there. Im not positive but I believe the box for that truck is a downfiring sub that goes under the rear seats. You might get a bit more bass out of that style, plus you have a lot less air space in a truck. So, I would say, if your looking for good SQ, space saving, and quality products, go with the MTX Thunderform...'89 Mercedes-Benz 300E

Blowing up in a car accident doesnt worry me, as long as I'm putting out some major dB's when I die...

I have sold a few of the thunderforms and I'd say a few as most cleints are scared off by the price.. I personaly have found some of them not to sound all that great for the money spent on them. I would look into vehicle specific mdf boxes, heres 2 companies   that I know of that make high quality enclosures. Hope this helps ya out on your decision, If you have any questions let me know.
