I have a 96 cavi w/o bose and want to put in a "newer" stock H/U.  Mine is old w/ only tape deck and I can get a used one from newer models pretty cheap.  I don't need a nice deck in this car as it is a spare, but the 'ol one is too old.

What years are backwards compatible, I don't want to throw in a databus style and screw everything up so am I limited to 96 - 2000?

Thanks in advance

Pretty much are limited to the non-databus type HU's. You can use from other models in the GM line up though if you don't like the looks of the HU's from Cavaliers, for example you could use a HU from a Grand Am or Blazer from the same year.

Great, that is exactly what I needed to know.  I have seen a bunch being sold for pretty good prices.  I just wanted to make sure they would fit in stock location w/ stock wiring harness (if not I can spice).

So pretty much any of the GM Delcos will drop right in with no antenna or metra harness needed then right?

One more thing do you know is any pre-2000 GM Delcos have a MP3/ AUX in the face w/ the headphone jack plug?  Wanna hook up the Ipod w/o having to get expensive CD cable.

None of the non-databus gm radios have a front mount aux jack.  You might also want to make sure you get a chevy radio, since the mounting brackets between pontiac, and chevy are different.
