I am in the market for a new amp ever since my PPI PCX-4125 developed a weird buzzing/hissing sound coming from the front right channel. I got it fixed twice but the noise has returned. I was running the 6.53's and a set of 6.5's(in the rear) off of the PPI but I think I might ditch the rears and just bi-amp the fronts. My problem is that I need some help/input on a few amps if any of you guys have any experience with them. I have it narrowed down to these so far, although I know some of you are going to start throwing around some other names.(that's ok though, input is what I'm looking for).

1. Soundstream TRA960.4 or 680.4

2. Arc Audio 4150xxk

3. JL 450/4

Basically what I am looking for is a clean amp, which I believe all of these are according to their specs anyway, and I want to run at least 200w per side. I am going to keep the crossovers for the comps instead of running an active system if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, and as far as price goes, I am hoping to keep it under $600.

I know you can get an Audison for that price. I think the SRX 2S is about 500. CDT makes the SQA-2400 and its amazing, I have one for my fronts, CDT HD-62's and it is clean. Sound is amazing. Just my two cents

those amps are both 2 channel. I am looking for a 4 channel so I can run separate channels to the 6.5's and the mid/tweet. CDT makes the 4140 but to be honest I never even looked at CDT amps. I know their comps are great but I have never heard anything about the amps until now. Thanks for the advice.

The Zapco Reference 360.4

50W X 4, but as are all Zapco products, VERY conservatively rated, and 549.00 retail.

That would probably be my number one choice, followed VERY closely by the Eclipse XA4000. 125W X 4, and I think around 500.00

Both of those would be SPECTACULAR choices...

Am I going to realize a big difference in the SQ of my Bostons by bi-amping them and retaining the passive crossovers? If not, then I am just going to get a two channel and run them the same way I have them now. To clarify, will they sound the same bi-amped with a 125x4 amp as they would with a 250x2 amp? I am just trying to see if I would gain audible sound quality with the same amount of power by bi-amping.

Thanks for all the input guys. After looking through some of the stickies I think the problems I am having with my PPI may be the result of a bad ground. I am going to upgrade the big 3 and try getting the amp repaired one more time and see if things don't work out. I would really love to buy a new amp, but my fiance isn't too keen on me spending $600 when we have a wedding coming up. And if my electrical system is the root cause, a new amp won't do me any good anyway...
