I want to get some speakers for my door as dedicated midbass but they are rated at 8ohms. Is there a way I can put a resistor inline to drop it to 4ohm without effecting the RMS actually reaching the speaker?

No. Just use the proper size amp for the speakers.

That, and what's wrong with running 8 ohms on your amplifier?

People seem to think that you MUST load an amplifier with it's rated impedance, in order to feel good about their purchase, or something like that. Just run the 8 ohm drivers, and be happy! THD will be lower, as will heat, the amp will last longer, the damping will be higher... The ONLY thing you will be missing is power, but if you have an efficient driver, you'll never actually "miss" it.

I run 6 and 8 ohm loads all day long, and there are no problems with that...

because the speakers are rated for 200RMS at 8ohms. id have to get a huge 2ch to get them even close to sufficient power at 8ohms.

What kind of speakers are they, and what amp are you considering (or already have)?

those speakers - one to each of 2 channels on an eclipse XA4000 (125rms x 4)

That amp'll make about 80 to 90 wpc @ 8 ohms. Those woofers'll be happy with that. What about bridging the amp to two channels? 250 watts each woofer? Would that be enough for you?

Run the amp in "tri-mode"...

good idea but not an option. the front 2 channels are powering my focal polyglass 3way comps.
