i was just wondering if anyone could give me a general idea of what gauge wires to use for the power and ground for a given sized amp. I have a 1000w amp and 2 400w subs, but im not sure if i should go with 4 or 8 gauge wiring for the power and ground. Wasnt sure if it's not that big of a deal or if it could end up messing the amp and subs up. Any help would be appreciated.

another rule of thumb i always use, is give the amp the largest it can handle. if it can accept 4ga give it 4. Same with speaker wire from the amp to the sub. as large as i can be...maybe thats just me...

so using 4 gauge should work just fine? and i remember reading somwhere that ur ground should always be the same size if not bigger than ur power wire, is that true or just petty non-sensical irritance :) and thanks again for all the help guys

Yes, your power and ground must be the same size as both will carry the same amount of current.

aight, glad u told me that, this amp wiring kit i got had 4 gauge for the power wire and 8 gauge for the ground....dont know why they did that but thanks again for the help

Um...wierd. What amp and kit did you buy?? Most good kits have same power and ground.
