Hi,

I've got an older Pioneer HU, Model KE-3100, and I'm trying to wire it up in my Dads garage, for a "shop radio".. SO, here's the problem.. No harness, and no manual.. It takes a single connector, with 8 prongs.. Pioneer WILL NOT give me the pin assignment, and without the harness to at least match the dang wire color, I'm SOL.. SO, I come to you guys for a little help.. Any Ideas? I know it has to have:

1) 12v +  probably red

1) 12v - ground, probably  black.

1) 12v + power out, for power antenae. probably blue

1) 12v + memory, probably grey, or maybe yellow?

4) speaker (+) out L,R, F,B purple, brown, green and orange, with or without stripes.. WHO KNOWS?

All I need is the POWER, GROUND, MEMORY/clock, AND ONE SPEAKER WIRE..Thanks..

just go buy a boom box. cheaper, plugs into the wall, nothing to wire up.
Whatever you do, DO NOT let the white smoke leak out of the wires.....

Does the front panel of the unit indicate a fader control? And is it digital radio? If so then there will be a power, ignition, ground, remote on and speaker. If the unit has no fader control, then you will have a total of  4 pins for the + and - for the speakers, left and right called a floating ground system.. If the unit has fader control, all 4 remaining pins will be for speaker + and the speaker - will go to ground, called a common grounding system.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Yeah, with only 8 pins total, I figgered it was a floating ground.. But I have NO idea which Pin is which.. I at least have to know which is the main power and the ground, cause if I get them two backwards, Its all over.

And NO, its NOT cheaper to "buy a boom box".. I allready have the HU.. the power supply, the speaker, and an antenea.. a "BOOM BOX" would cost me at least $50

Dam, I forgot to answer the rest of the Question, Yes, it is a digital and yes it does have a fader.. I think its going to have a memory wire and an illumination hot wire as well... So 3 hots, One ground, and 4 speaker wires.. floating ground. Only Question is, which ones are hot, and which one is not.

Here is the best I could do.

I looked at a Service Manual for  KE1900 KE1910 KE2900 KE2910 and it only lists the plug pin numbers.

So I drew up this diagram for you.

Car Audio Install Resources:

Head-unit Wiring

There may be different colours in your harness since radios vary from model to model.  If you are not sure about colour codes, contact us first!  Fortunately, most manufacturer's are trying to use the same wire codes.  With minor variations, the first table applies to most aftermarket head units.  The second table covers older Pioneer headunits (up to 1998).

*Please note that GREEN/ Black refers to a Green wire with a Black stripe.

50 bucks for a boom box is too expensive?

head unit with no plug that you don't know the wiring info, wires running everywhere to power converter and speaker(s), what about an antenna?

vs.

boom box with one cord that plugs into the wall, speakers contained in unit, built in antenna, very convenient.

oh well, it's your deal not mine.

A Car Stereo Blows a Boom Box out of the water when it comes to wattage and Options.

I would use the Car Stereo any day of the week.
