im looking at picking up a FI Q12 sub that will be powerd by a Power Acoustik A2400DB.

the amp says 1800w rms into a 1 ohm load.  900W x 1 @ 4 ohms.  1400W x 1 @ 2 ohms.

my main question is when i buy the Q12 it gives me a choice to choose either dual 1 ohm or dual 2 ohm.

what would be the best choice to go with?  also when it comes to boxes...the website says a ported box with 1.8-2.5 cuft @ 28-33Hz.  would that be the best way to go with a box.  other idea welcomed.

my setup will include the Q12 sub for sure and if that amp will work i'll go with that also.  i dont really have a budget but if i had to set one it would $400-500.

thanks guys

John

Use the dual 2 ohm..bridge the coils for a one ohm load. I don't know the power rating of the sub but 1800watts should be more than enough..watch the gain settings or you will be replacing subs alot.

If you are concerned about overpowering use the dual one ohm and series the coils for a 2 ohm final load.

If you like alot of SPL I would go with the ported box..the extra output is basically a "freebie".

Good luck.

im not worried about over powering the subs as i can always turn the amp down.

but i'll go with the dual 2 ohm then bridge them.  that way i can alway go with another sub if i choose to upgrade and turn up the power of the amp.

thanks master5, quick response.

I would get the dual 1 ohm coils and wire them in series for 2 ohms...I wouldn't wanna kill that amp by pushing it at 1 ohm...it is power acoustik ya know

thats the problem when you give 2 choices that can both work. I would hate to advise you running it at one ohm and then a problem arrises.

Honestly..I should have suggested the 2ohm setup from the start..you see even though it is a one ohm stable amp..that really is too close to a short for comfort..basically heat will be an issue for daily use. And honestly that amp has enough power at 2 ohms so I would opt for reliability...use a ported box and you won't be dissapointed.
