Hey Guys,

I have a 2007 Chavy Tahoe LS, with the normal Factory Radio. No Bose System or NAVI. I would like to evntually add the Pioneer AVHP-6800DVD. But I would like to start out with some bass first and then upgrade the HU. I have down installs on my other cars but with aftermarket HU's. But never on a car with the factory radio still installed. My question is where and how would I install the High Low Converter, and where would I get the AMP turn on power from? Any help on this would be greatly appreciate it.

<>Thanks

<>Frank

Your vehicle utilizes RAP (retained accessory power) which means there is no acc 12v at the head unit. You can try the ignition harness or fuse panel but what will happen if you don't find the RAP relay is when you initially turn off the key the deck will remain on until the door is open (or times out) but the sub will cut off..kinda annoying.

If you have patience you may be able to find the RAP relay (usually is by the fuse area but I can't promise this on your vehicle). Use a DMM

Option 2 is using an LOC that has a remote generator wire..this will put out 12v when it picks up an audio signal, and 0 volts when no audio signal. PAC, DEI and a few other companies make this part.

As far as where to tap the LOC audio you can go to the back of the deck (since you state it has no factory amps) or at the rear speakers wires..one place to grab em is under on of the door sills going to the rear..the colors for most GM are..

LR+ brown         LR-  yellow     RR+   dark blue   RR- lt. blue

Verify these are speaker wires before tapping in or there could be trouble.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the prompt response, I will be looking into find this RAP relay. I am newbie when it comes to terms used what does DMM stand for, as well as the LOC? PAC and DEI products, where can I find this special type of LOC with the power generator wire as Option 2 seems to be the best one. Dont want to mess around with any relays or wires in the dash area.

I am sure that once I understand this I would not have any problems in finishing up this install.

DMM stands for digital multi meter. It is the only real safe device to use to probe wires in newer vehicles if used propery. You should purchase one and learn how to use it before doing any electrical work on vehicles.

LOC is line output converter which will allow you to convert the speaker outputs of the factory deck to "line level" and connect that to the amplifiers audio inputs "RCA's".

You can go to PAC's website "pacific audio" and look at the different converters. You should be able to find the converter you need at a car audio retailer or order one online if you search around. Usually 20-30 dollars retail but I do not reccomend buying a cheap no name brand since they may have reliability issues.

You will need to connect switched power and ground to this type of converter as well as a pair of speaker wires so make sure you have assitance by a professional if unsure of how to do this, there is potential to do some expensive damage when tampering with electrical systems these days.

Good Luck.
