Someone stated that Alpine amps "melt" at anything less than 4ohm. I am planning to run my MRD-M605 at 2ohm pushing a 400-500wrms subwoofer. Should I be concerned?

The MRD-M605 is a mono subwoofer amp and is stable at 2-ohms.

As such, it will not melt.

'melt'- well, the only time i have seen amps get hot enough to melt any part (wire connections, board, etc), it was almost always due to insufficient power to the amp- power/ground wires too small or poor connections, or not enough current supplied from the alternator.  the only other reason would be if you were just simply pushing the amp too hard (gains set too high).  at two ohms, the amp will require more current to it (can't make power where it doesn't already exist), and may also run warmer, but shouldn't ever get hot enough to melt or burn anything.  if properly installed and adjusted, that amp should run just fine at 2 ohms.

That person has absolutely no knowledge about car audio

Hi guys, it's been a while. I've had some bad experience with the 605s at a 2 ohm load. They tend to shut down when run hard, specifically with a JL 10" W6V2 which when parralled actually shows a 1.9 ohm load. I will be leaving this business soon, it's been fun, Bob

well yes, the 10w6v2 is what I was looking to get. I can pick one up locally for about $200 CAD. So I thought it'd be a good deal and better than my 10" Type R (older 300wrms version). By "melting" I didn't mean physically burn or melt wiring or any other components. Just like Bob here mentioned that it might have problems like shutting down and overheating. And it looks like it might.
