What are the advantages of running a dedicated power wire from battery to the head unit (Eclipse CD5000)? I have a harness that I can use but am wondering why people use different locations (battery or ignition)?

I am using an aftermarket amp to power my speakers, so does the internal amp of the head unit even come into play? Isn't the aftermarket amp just amplifying signal voltage via the RCA's? If I am totally wrong please let me know. Thanks.

In your installation, it'll gain you nothing to go to the additional effort of running to the battery. Use the harness, run your RCA's, and be finished with it.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

the only reason why i ever did that in ONE of my vehicles is because those slandered wires didn't work. The only wire I wouldn't use is the ground.
