Can anyone point me in the right direction into setting my system? Basically, give me a rough setting that will get more out of my speakers & sub? I'm not looking for a perfect sounding system, nor a head pounding one. Just something a little more bass and clarity than leaving it be. I've searched many forums and am trying to do as much research as I can into finding out what does what. But right now, I would like to hear a small dose of what my stuff is capable off.

Anyone work with Alpine's I-Personalize? Everything seems self explanatory, but I can't seem to grasp the concept of the crossover control and parametric EQ. I'm running 6.5" SPR-174A coaxials up front, 4x6" SPS-4629 coaxials for rear and a single Type S 10" in a ported bassworx box. I'm also using the old CDA-7998 head unit with the 5-channel MRV-450 powering everything. And, my vehicle is a 1990 Nissan 240SX hatchback.

So far, it sounds alright. A LOT better than what it used to sound like. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry for such a long post :(

Typically the door speakers should be crossed-over at or above 80Hz. Does the CDA-7998 have crossovers built-in? You could get away with the HPF on your door speakers at 80Hz and your LPF for the sub also set at 80Hz. The EQ settings generally depend on the acoustics of the vehicle so we can't really tell you where to set them at.

-Also, does your HU say 'i-personalize' on the front? I have a CDA-9830 and I think it was one of the first to offer 'i-p'.

I don't think it says i-personalize on the front, I could be mistaken though. The owner's manual for sure has an i-personalize section, and its on the compatability list on Alpine's website.

The 7998 does have crossovers built in. However, I've decided to set the HPF and LPF setting through the amplifier instead (it seems much easier to do so rather than the i-personalize program). Only thing to do now is set the time corrections.

You don't have to use i-personalize for anything. In fact, I don't. It's just a hassle to me. I mean, my 9830 allows me to save 2 user settings. These include all x-overs, EQ's, and time-correction's. I-personalize just means instead of holding the audio (or equivalant, I can't remember the name of it) button to access the x-overs, EQ's, and time-corrections, all you do is slip in the CD that you downloaded your i-p settings to and it loads your setting auto. The reason I say it's a hassle is b/c all you have to do is hold the audio button and press 1 or 2 to load those preset sound settings -my 9830 allows 2 users presets, yours might be diff. Now it would probably be best if you used your HU's x-overs instead of the amps. This allows for quick adjustments at the HU instead of having to pull over or whatever. I personally have my EQ set as follows (like I mentioned before, every vehicle has diff. acoutical properties so this is just an example);

I have 4 bands. Band 1 -40Hz-; set a 0. Band 2 -150Hz-; set at -3 w/a Q of 3 (widest). Band 3 -1Khz-; set at -3 w/a Q of 2(widest). Band 4 -15Khz-; set at +3.
