I never actually tried phoenix gold nor have I listened to any of their products, but I have heard some nice things about them. I wouldnt consider them a top name brand which might be the reason of why places sell them retiviely cheaper than the name brands. I honestly dont look at name brands like sony, pioneer, kicker, JL and so on. The only big name brand I have in my entire car is my panasonic touchscreen headunit. I use all earthquake speakers and subs (which totally kick if you use a powerful amp). I run 4 power acustik tweeters which are very great tweeters if you run them off an amp (which I do) I have  a kole audio 2000 watt amp which is a outstanding amp for power and cleaness. I run a earthquake 4 channel amp for my earthquake speakers. What I love about the earthquake amp witch the speakers I have (pair 4X6 and pair 6X9) is that the amp is a 600 watt 4 channel, speakers are 200 and 300 I think and I have the front level at 1/2 and rear at 1/4. The amps trebel is at 0DB's and bass is at -12DB's and those speakers are still very loud that my ears ring afterwards. Also have a soundstorm 400watt 4 channel for the tweeters. Anyways, all of those I just mentioned expect for the headunit are not name brand's and they do better than most name brand. First off, I cant stand Sony headunits. i dont care for their subs either, but love their amps. I like pioneer headunits, and speakers. But yet Sony and Pioneer are the same company now FYI. Id have to look at some phoenix gold amps online to see what they are like.

wow thanks for your input... like i said, i have been out of the scene for quiet sometime.. but back in the days they had the ZX line.. i found a link http://www.phoenixgold.com/webfaq/ZX.htm and those things rocked.. .i also for a short while has a M special edition that rocked as well... I am almost thinking of window shopping ebay to pick up some old phoenix gold stuff... or maybe just a five channel alpine amp.. that might work out too... i will probably own run one subwoofer for awhile anyways...

haven't really followed pg lately, but i will tell you what i do know.  their more recent stuff has been of much less quality than the originals- probably because they are trying to keep up with the market-cheap sells.  the newer stuff i have seen looks just like anything else out there in the price range, and is priced accordingly.   the old stuff, was nasty!!!  an old pg amp would sell for huge money, would be rated at like 250 watts, would be heavy and monstrous in size (for rated power).  but, if you ran them correctly, you could get 1400+ wattsof clean power from that 250 watt amp.  i had an old phoenix ms 2125- it was rated at 125 w/rms per channel at 4 ohms.  i ran it at  1/2 ohm mono to 4 dvc twelves and i pounded all over the other guys with 4-12's and 2000 watt or bigger amps.  the old ones were highly underrated by manufacturer. i wish i still had mine, it rattled apart in my trunk after 3 years.

see now i remember before the zx series (bought discounted when working at a installer in the 90's.) i had many others.. i had an PG M75, that amp was bad ass... i ran some orion stuff.. i remember when band pass was huge and i built a box that was sick for one 15 and pushed this crap out of it with a orion 150 hcca... those were the days... right now i have iva-d310 with the ipod and black bird... i still have a jl audio 12w3 that has been hiding in a closet for a couple of years... so what i need is maybe just a multi channel amp of some kind.. kind of thinking of maybe just a alpine... anyone have any good suggestions... maybe a jl audio amp... keep it jl and alpine...

never been impressed by the alpine amps- they are nice, but not my choice.  i have played with the jl 250/1, the 500/1, and the 300/4.  they were all fantastic.  plenty of power.  the 500/1 was set up in my friends car to 4 dvc 12's-  you almost couldn't sit in the back of his pathfinder, it hurt.

i run all pcx series precision power amps now.  they are big money, but well worth it, and i got a hell of a deal on the ones i have. but they do have such a huge current draw.  (the 4 i have in my truck draw over 400 amps turned up)

i don't care much for the sony stuff, but i guess it's pretty good for the money- all my little brothers friends have them and they seem to keep them happy.

pioneer is good for the money, too- and they have a bunch of much bigger (2-3000 watt) digital amps that i really want to get a chance to play with.

for a little more money, the boston amps are nice, too- and small in size

there's plenty of good stuff out there now, too much to list
