I'm looking for a sub that's light weight and can work in a box that will be no bigger than 1.6cu. I'm looking for spl. I see that a lot of companies are now making shallow mount subs like kicker pioneer and earthquake. let me know what you think. I'm getting rid of my 75lb pioneer sub which with the box was around 125lbs. I'd like to make the box smaller than noted above. Has anyone heard the new kicker cvt.

The shallow mount woofs you talkin about......NOT for anything near SPL.

Maybe talk about the type of car/truck your planning on making bass in?

Also does any one know what type of frame this car has. I'm getting a ground return resistance of 18ohms everywhere in the trunk. Any one find a good place to ground?

A Taurus does not have a "frame" it is a unibody vehicle.  Bad ground return resistance like that is uncommon but possible.  You may have to run a ground cable (the same sixe as your power cable) back to the battery or to the engine.  Check ground return resistance to the alternator case.  Also, there are several very nice woofers that can be used in a 1.6 cuft enclosure.  What's your budget?

I achieved a good ground return in my '01 Taurus.  I used the side panel sheet metal (driver's side inside trunk, where the OEM tuner was grounded) and also upgraded the battery-to-chassis wire.  You'll note that the battery grounds to that same side.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I've done the big three upgrade with 2ga wire.

I've decided to change my set up. I'm going to have two separate single sub enclosures molded into the corners. Getting out of the spl stuff and into the SQ. im guessing, but probably won't have more than 1cu. budgeted around 350-400 for the subs.
