can radio static harm speakers?

i do alot of driving in the sticks and where i drive the reception isnt good so there is alot of static, being bored of typical radio i also listen to am radio talk shows and there are times when there are buzzing sounds and other am raio noises

so will this type of listening harm the speakers? i read somewhere that distrotion can damage speakers, is radio static a form of distortion?

I would also like to know the answer to this.

I would guess as long as the speaker doesn't exceed mechanically or thermally (too much power, really) it'd be okay. But man, sometimes it sounds horrible!

Jmelton86, you are absolutely right. Distrotion cannot damage a speaker unless it causes the conditions you describe.

thnx steven, so these radio noises shouldnt harm speakers? good....i sure wouldnt want to ruin my cdt speakers listening to the radio

Yea I would have to agree with you also. Just look at it as being part of a song. The static is basically coming out as the same volume as what the music is. So really the only way you can hurt a speaker is if you are putting more power into the speaker than what it can handle. Than in that situation, it doesnt matter if its perfect sounding music or if its nothing but static, the end result would be a damaged or blown speaker. My only question is, does this also answer about alternator wines? Im assuming yes but just wanted to know.
