I did a search for headunit review and could not locate one in this forum.
Just wondering if anyone had any advice on one for researching best bang for buck and features.
thanks,

What are you looking for? Toys? SQ? A little more information would be nice.
I am a fan of almost anything with an Eclipse badge on it, especially for SQ... Nothing I have heard can bet the top end Eclipse decks for total SQ. Period. I have also now seen the new Alpine head unit, ( the 001) with the USB device reader in it. No CD player, but if you have lossless compressed files, it'll play them, and it sounds JUST like the CD. Hell, it IS the CD! Without the CD.
With an iPod controller, (iPod is optional) it'll still read anything that is a "USB storage device" compliant device. That means that anything you can plug into your WindowsXP computer and that computer just sees a new drive letter WITHOUT ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE, it'll read it.
Some devices I know for sure it WILL NOT work with:
1: Creative MP3 players need not apply... The Creative players REQUIRE the "Creative Nomad" software... it WON'T work with such a device.
2: Archos Portable Digital Video players, if in "Windows Device" mode. (In "Hard Drive" mode, it will work just fine)
For toys? Can't really beat that one. FANTASTIC SQ as well, if using the lossless file formats. (MP3 sucks, but that's not the fault of the deck, MP3 just sucks!) HDRadio ready, as well. XM and Sirius capable. (ALL of the radio formats sound like crap, but that's just the fault of the format, again, NOT the fault of the deck... Can you tell that I am not a fan of compressed audio?) Also, with that in your dash, you can TRULY say you have the latest in the new gadgets!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
