ALL your Big3 wiring should be the same size, everywhere. You want it all the same size as the power wire you run to the the amps if not bigger. If you removed the factory grounds in your upgrade, it's better to have larger Big3 wiring (than the amp power wire) as the car needs to be powered off these AS WELL as your sound system.

so does this mean that the ground wire on the alternator needs to be 4 gauge also.
I will put 4 gauge on the 12+, do I need 4 gauge for the 12- on the alternator? yes, my amps are using 4 gauge just for the amps and the capacitor.

Sorry I don't know why I didn't see it at the top. The positive of the alternator...
now, if I have 1 Gauge from the front go to the rear where the battery is, can from the alternator to the 1 gauge be ok?

alternator to the 1gauge? -If you mean using 1g for your Big3 alt wiring then, yes.

Then the 1g will be useless as it will only get as much as the 4g can supply. It would perform just as the 4g would. Go ahead and do it all right from the start. You have, as far as I can say, every source you need through this Website.

sorry, I forgot to be a bit more detailed.
I have 1 gauge in the engine bay going to the rear already for my battery as it was relocated to fit the turbo.
anyway, since I have 1 gauge run, I was going to connect a 4 gauge to the 1 gauge since it is there. to pull it out or run another complete set of wires is not going to be possible.
So right now, I have 2 1 gauge cables run from the front to the trunk where the battery is.
I will use the second 1 gauge for the alternator, but since it does not reach to the alternator I will run a 4 gauge audio power cable to the 1gauge.
will this be ok?
Please let me know if I need to be more detailed.
thank you,
mark
