CHeers- Just working on my install of the new alpine iDA-001 and trying to hook it up to XM via a "Unviersal Tuner Box" XMD1000 and a XMDLAP100 for the alpine systems. I'm having no luck with any of it.. The head works but when the adapter is plugged in via the special plug (same for cd changers) the head needs a reboot via the red reboot switch. There is not a lot to the tuner and adapter- the power is supplied from the head via the special plug- so it's not a power/ground issue- Maybe is's just the fact that it's made by TERK / Audivox. Could these porducts suck any more then they do? I'm installing it into a tight place and the adapter box has about 1" of air space inside- like the Terk engineer could'nt figure that the space behind most dash areas is tight- (sorry had to vent!)
Any help appreciated-
Coleman.

Sounds as if you may be slightly aggravated :-)
I haven't personally had any experience with the XMD1000 with an Alpine HU, but wanted to advise that I do install quite a few of the XM Commander units which use the same tuner, and they work wonderfully..

Are you sure that your XMDALP100 is a current model. The original model will not work with Alpine head units from 2006 on. The model number is the same ( Terk are idiots ) the only way to tell the differance is that the newer model will have a black square on the packaging that says " Compatable with 2006 and on headunits"

Yeah, it has the sticker- so..
I called Terk (turd) service and they claim that the iDA-001 is no compatible, I called Alpine, they say that they have one working with the same setup, I'm in the process of getting a new XMD1000, as it may be faulty, but the ALP100's are not being produced, so I cant get a replacement of that, so i have to find one floating around somewhere, as most shops are out of stock, I think a new (terk) system will be released to superceed the ALP100's. It could even be a cable or harness issue- I'll keep on hammering away-
thanks for the input-

Terk is so full of KaKa. Here's my take on what's happened at Alpine and Terk. First the X-001 is definately XM compatable ( I have one running in my board). Yes I would try a new tuner next.

Which leads us to a whole new set of questions. Why did Terk discontinue the Alpine adaptor in the middle of a model year when they are still making the same piece for Kenwood, Sony and Pioneer? Why were none of the dealers told it was "discontinued" and not "backordered". Here's the tcss exclusive theory ( and mind you this is conjecture). Alpine is now making it's own Sirius tuner, model KCA-SC100. It sells for $40.00 less then the Directed model. My guess is that there is also an XM tuner in the works that will sell much cheaper then the Terk junk. So what dones Terk do? Yep, they take there ball and go home. "Yeah Alpine, try selling head units to people that want XM radios when they can't buy a tuner pack". So, as usual us dealers and our customers, are left holding the bag and looking like morons.

By the way, I just bought what I think might be the last new XMDALP-100s left in the country from some distributor in North Carolina. Sheeesh............
