Just bought about a 2 year old Alpine Type-X (SWX1242D) from my cousin for $150, and was curious in what amp to hook it up with.  The sub is 500-1000W RMS, and I've heard Alpine's are normally power hungry.  I'm going to wire it to 2 ohms, as I only will have the one sub, and put about 800 watts RMS with it, since I really don't want to damage the sub in any way as I don't have a warranty.  The amps I'm looking at are:

Alpine MRP-M850-  800w RMS at 2 ohms, but that's rated at 14.4 volts.  How many watts would it have at 12volts?

Soundstream PCA1000D-  800w RMS at 2 ohms

JBL GTO1201.1ii-  1114w RMS at 2 ohms, but once again that's rated at 14.4 volts

People have mentioned Hifonics Brutus's and Legacy Optidrive, but I don't like the Hifonics and the Legacy's are a bit too much.  I'm trying to keep this amp under $300, so any recommendations oir thoughts on the amps I've mentioned?  Thank you very much

The MRP-M850 would be the best bang for the buck with the selection you have listed there.

Yes, I'm really hoping the alpine will work out, just whether it has enough power is the issue.  Also, forgot to mention, no kicker or audiobahn, I hate stuff that's too flashy(although I like soundstream...?), but thanks.

Your woofer will suck the LIFE out of that Alpine amp.  Alpine V Series amps are notorious for not liking 2 ohm loads.  Consider a JL A1400 or A1800.
There is no such thing as free installation!

Totally forgot about JL e-series!  Great idea, I'll check prices on the e1800 tonight.  Thanks a lot!  Any other suggestions are still appreciated.

Just checked on the JL e1800, and they're $330-350 minimum, and I really want to try to stay under $300.  It's not going to be easy, but I'm shooting for it.  Thanks for the help, I'm still open to any suggestions.  Right now I'm leaning to the Soundstream...but if I can get the JBL for cheap enough that's my first choice.  I'm really afraid that Alpine will underpower it :( due to the responses.
