Hey I was wondering what you guys would reccomend between a JL 12W7 or an Orion HCCA 12.4. both in a slot port enclosure. Each sub off a JL 1000/1. looking for SPl.

The HCCA can handle more power (according to their comparison video anyway), but I'd bet the W7 will destroy it in SQ and keep up with it in output.  Plus it would keep you from having to change your user name. jl 12w7 or orion hcca 12.4 -- posted image.

The W7 has more excursion and more cone area for a given size, so displacement is higher.  Plus it uses the cross-drilled pole piece which linearizes the BL reducing distortion.  The W6 is a stripped down version of the W7 utilizing some of the same features, but not all to cut down on cost.  The W6 is a really nice sub, but it doesn't match the W7's performance.  The shop I work at is a JL dealer and I've built quite a few systems with both subs, so I have plenty of experience with both.

Why do you think JL would design the W6 to outperform their more expensive reference sub?  That just doesn't make sense.

jesus, it was a damn typo.
but, with that being said, I have owned a w7 and a w6, and I have some w3's in my home audio setup. on testing with a zapco 750.2, in enclosures recommended by JL, found only a 2db difference between the two subwoofers. not enough to justify the added expense. sold the w7 to my brother and picked up a SI mag and also have a few others layin around (IDQ12, and a SS rl-s)

Thx guys i was leaning toward the W7 anyway but now ive made my decision. and i cant see how there could only be 2Db difference between the W6 an W7. Were they 10s or 12s?

i wouldn't worry about what rudy said about only a 2db difference
that is only in his case and is not the same for every other situation out there...the W7 is an awesome woofer indeed
