Need opinions on something...
I'm thinking about just skipping a head unit altogether, and using my laptop instead. It would give me more processing abilities to the audio (like a 33 band eq :))
Good idea or bad?

Go for it. If you have a power supply for your laptop, so you can use it indefinitely, I personally see no problems doing that at all...
I would suggest, though, that instead of actually using the laptop's soundcard, which will likely be pretty noisy, and probably won't have very good overall specifications, I'd spend about 100 bux on a good quality external USB sound card
CompUSA has this toy, and even at only 50 dollars, I can pretty much guarantee better quality audio than an internal laptop sound device. Or, try this one...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
