I have a Directed SX12D4 that was inverted on the box next to its twin. The box they where in was not mounted because I have an E350 van and I have to move it whenever I what to haul some sheets of mdf or something like that.
So when I was going over a speed bump an old lady started backing out of a parking spot without looking so I got the heck out of her way but by doing so my box went flying up and slamed back down on the magnet of the sub as I went over the bump with my back tires. The magnet broke off the basket and tried to take the voice coil with it. It riped the former in two just before the copper coil and the wires are still in tacked with the spider. I can set the former inline with the one still on the cone but have know idea how to attach the two pieces back together with out it getting in the way of the excursion or it not being a good material for high heat .   I know people are thinking "just buy a new one". If only it where that easy.
           Any ideas?

No, that's not what people are thinking.  People are thinking that you are damned lucky you still have a head.

Always secure the box.  Period.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

The basket is usually attached to the top plate by glue and screws which are installed prior to the soft parts being attached.  Unfortunately there is no way to access these screws without a recone.  If it's a spendy driver then it may be cost effective to send it back to DEI to have them fix it.

Why "is it not easy" to replace it? It's a 200 dollar woofer, and you can buy them at pretty much any outlet store or flea market for less than a c-note.
With the damage you have described, you won't be able to repair it, and have it last.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

once you get basket damage it isn't something that you will be able to fix at home. If it still is under warranty you can try to send it back but I will tell you they may charge you because the damage is not material or workmanship fault.

Thanks for the responses. As for the first reply, I have a security wall that helps keep my head on. It was the first thing I got after getting the van. I carry tools and such that cant be mounted. Thankfully my parents where not related so I do have some common sense. Lol.
The top plate is still attached to the basket and the basket is still in perfect shape minus the magnet. They used a thin layer of glue to hold the magnet to the top plate. I can set the magnet back on the top plate and aline it perfectly. So the only issue that I can see is the torn former. Aside from that the speaker appears perfect. I cant think of a reason to remove the top plate. How could that help me repair the former?
As far as buying a new one, my 4 yr old daughter has been in and out of the hospital and is in need of some med's that are coasting around 480.00 a month. That on top of keeping the lights on, food in our mouths and cars on the road there's not much left to blow on a 280 dollar sub.
The warranty was the first thing I looked into and as it turns out directed would replace if the store I got it at was a authorized dealer. The store even has banners and the window sticker stating that it is authorized but directed has never heard of them so now directed is investigating them and im S@#$ out of luck.
